What is Bulusan Festival? Bulusan Festival is a folks festival on the 7th day after day of fitr in the place of Bulusan Kudus. It called bulusan because of the history of sightings bulus every year in little lake there. Bulus is an animal like turtle.

This 7th day after id al fitr is well known here as Kupatan day. Here we will find a festival to celebrate what we commonly called too as the 2nd fitr (lebaran kedua) or little fitr (lebaran kecil).

So after fasting in a month of Ramadhan, it ended by Id al fitr celebration on 1st day of Syawal, name of lunar month in hijri calendar after month of Ramadhan.

Then in some tradition, based on hadits of Rasulullah Shallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, it will followed by the Syawal fasting in 6 days consecutively, where the other jurisprudence did not require that it must be consecutively. So for the one who practicing fasting in these 6 days consecutively, they will break their fasting and celebrate fitr again as 2nd fitr day or little fitr day. As we mention above, this day is called as Kupatan day.

In some places in northern beach of Java, this is common. It called kupatan because on this day we celebrate it by making kupat, the local food made from rice and wrapped with coconut leaf called janur. Kupat and opor ayam is common menu on this day. Tasty and delicious.
